Dr. Phelps joined Verdier Eye Center in 2020. He is an optometrist (O.D.) licensed to examine eyes, diagnose, and provide non-surgical treatment of eye disease, as well as manage vision disorders. He specializes in the medical management of cornea and glaucoma, as well as other non-surgical eye diseases and comprehensive post-operative care.
Dr. Phelps was born and raised in West Michigan and attended Ferris State University for his undergraduate studies. He earned both his Bachelor's degree and Doctor of Optometry degree from Indiana University, graduating with high honors. He then completed a residency in ocular disease at the Cincinnati Eye Institute, where he trained alongside specialists in cornea, retina, glaucoma, uveitis, and neuro-ophthalmology.
From March 2025 to May 2026, Dr. Phelps practiced at Eye Consultants and Surgeons of Arizona, where he further advanced his experience in managing complex ocular disease and surgical co-management. This additional experience has strengthened his clinical expertise, particularly in glaucoma and anterior segment care.
